Agave spirit (Raicilla Artesanal) · 44 % vol · 0.7 l

1

Distilled twice and therefore more elegant than the 40 %: white flowers and wild anise on the nose, pear, green apple and walnut on the palate. The Agave maximiliana grows for around seven years without chemicals in the Sierra Madre, where cloud forest meets red volcanic soil. For most people, the first raicilla of their life.

Worth knowing

  1. 01Hardly anyone in Germany stocks raicilla. For most guests it will be the first glass.
  2. 02In Mexico it is drunk “a besitos”, in little kisses: take a sip, wait a moment, then the next one.
  3. 03Alongside: a piece of dark chocolate and a thin slice of mango.

Origin and production

Distilled by La Xamana, Tacho and Lupita Guzmán's vinata · San Sebastián del Oeste, Jalisco

The harvest is around 70 % capón agaves, whose flower stalk was cut early so the starch stays in the piña, and 30 % fully mature sazón agaves. They are cooked in a 1.3-tonne masonry oven, fired with oak from fallen trees. Fermentation is spontaneous with stream and spring water, and distillation takes place over a wood fire in a still with a copper coil. The result tastes of blossom and stone, with hardly any smoke.

FAQs

How are tequila, mezcal and raicilla best enjoyed?

Neat, at room temperature, from a small glass with an opening, such as a copita or a nosing glass. In small sips, without salt and lime. This is where the agave and the craft come through most clearly.

How long does an opened bottle keep?

Tightly closed, stored upright and in the dark, around a year without any noticeable change in flavour. Unopened, practically indefinitely.

Is ID required on delivery?

Yes. We only sell spirits to adults. The courier hands over the parcel only on presentation of ID.

What does additive-free mean?

No glycerine, no flavourings, no other additives. The houses we work with confirm this in writing. The glass holds only what comes from agave, water, yeast and time.

What happens if a bottle arrives broken?

Please get in touch within 48 hours of delivery at info@mecanova.de with a few photos: the outside of the box, the shipping label with tracking number, the padding and the damaged bottle in the box. Nothing needs to be returned, but please keep the box and the broken glass until we get back to you. We send a replacement or refund the amount.

Can an opened bottle be returned?

You can withdraw from the purchase of unopened bottles within 14 days. Our bottles are sealed: if the seal has been opened after delivery, withdrawal is excluded, because for hygiene reasons we cannot resell an opened spirit. Where there is no seal, you owe compensation for the loss in value of an opened bottle. Details are in the withdrawal policy.
